Houston, Texas – The atmosphere at the post-game press conference was supposed to revolve around goals, tactics, or team performance. But no one expected that moment to become an emotional earthquake, when Alex Bregman – the star player of the Houston Astros – suddenly choked up when sharing about the serious health condition of his young son.
“We just received the news that he is sick… I don’t know what to do but fight – this time, not on the field, but with my son.”
According to what Bregman shared, the boy was only three years old when he was diagnosed with a rare disease that requires long-term treatment and can seriously affect his future. The Astros star said he will continue to play, but his heart and mind are now “always with the hospital bed where his son is fighting for his life every day.”
The news immediately sent shockwaves through the fan community. Many teammates, coaches, other teams and fans across MLB sent prayers, shares and support in every way possible for the Bregman family.
The Houston Astros also confirmed that they will set up a medical support fund in the boy’s name, to raise money to support families with children with serious illnesses like Bregman’s son.
“Every swing is no longer about the scoreboard. It’s about my son – the smallest hero I’ve ever known.”
