UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson has visited Malawi and called for an end to child marriage.
During a trip to Malawi, actress Emma Watson saw firsthand the work local leaders are doing to end child marriage and get girls back into school. Among them was Ms. Kachindamoto, the female governor of Dedza district, who has annulled 1,500 marriage agreements and ordered the arrest of village chiefs who had allowed them.
Also on the trip, actress Emma Watson spent time listening to the stories of girls returning to school after escaping their marriages, including Stella Kalilombe. She was forced to marry at 17 when she became pregnant. Her son is now 4 years old.
