CHICAGO – Hundreds of people used International Women’s Day to protest issues with the Trump administration.

Protesters made their voices heard, voicing their disagreements with President Trump’s agenda.

“This is not normal. This isn’t normal what we’re going through right now. We shouldn’t be going through this. We’re going backwards. We should be going forward,” a demonstrator named Deanna said.

A march and rally for women was held at Daley Plaza on Washington Street. Women’s issued like gender equality, reproductive rights and domestic violence were top of mind.

From participants to speakers, many felt some of the Trump administration’s policies are harmful to women.

“Are we going to be silent? Be silent? No. The fight is here. Say the fight is here. The fight is now,” Comm’r. of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Precious Brady-Davis, said.

Many women in attendance said they’ve been championing these causes for decades.

“I marched in the 70s for women’s right to choose and for the Equal Rights Amendment, and I feel like we are just back where we started,” demonstrator Sharon Sprague said.

Some children were also in attendance and said they wanted to experience a women’s march.

“I think it’s really good that everyone’s here fighting for women’s rights,” one child said.

The crowd had people of all walks of life, looking to make their voices heard.

“They might get it. They might see how unpopular their policies are,” demonstrator Mary Cane said.

After the rally, demonstrators marched north on Dearborn Street and east on Wacker Drive to Trump Tower. They chanted outside of the building for over 30 minutes.

Speakers and participants from all over the Midwest, including Chicago, were in attendance.

Demonstrators said the fight doesn’t stop here.

“And it’s going to be up to each one of us to find where you’re going to be able to stand up to this, because this is going to be a long struggle. It’s a lot of people’s rights and we must just keep doing it every day,” a demonstrator named Mary said.
