Robert Pattinson is feeling the weight of time as he waits for his return as Gotham’s caped crusader.

In a recent interview with Hero Magazine, the 38-year-old actor joked about the prolonged delays in the highly anticipated sequel to The Batman (2022), quipping that he will be playing “old Batman” by the time the movie finally hits theaters.

When asked about reprising his role as Bruce Wayne, Pattinson responded, “I f—ing hope so. I started out as young Batman, and I’m going to be f—ing old Batman by the sequel.”

His Mickey 17 co-star Naomi Ackie, who was also part of the interview, playfully countered, “You’re literally what, 35?” to which Pattinson corrected, “I’m 38, I’m old.”

Still, the Twilight alum added on a positive note, “I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit.”

The Long Wait for The Batman Part II

A sequel to The Batman was officially confirmed at CinemaCon in April 2022, with both Pattinson and director Matt Reeves returning. In January 2023, DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced that the film, titled The Batman Part II, was originally scheduled for release on October 3, 2025.

However, the project has since been subject to multiple delays. In December 2024, the release date was pushed back to October 1, 2027. Responding to the news on Threads, Gunn reassured fans by pointing out that long gaps between sequels are not uncommon, citing franchises like Alien, Terminator, Top Gun, and Guardians of the Galaxy as examples.

Production Timeline and Story Teasers

Despite the setbacks, Pattinson provided an update in February 2025 while promoting Mickey 17, confirming to Variety that filming for the sequel is expected to begin at the end of the year.

“I think at the end of the year?” he speculated before teasing the storyline. “I know what it’s about, but I can’t tell anyone. It’s very cool. It’s very exciting.”

Pattinson’s Upcoming Projects

While The Batman Part II remains in limbo, Pattinson has a packed schedule. His latest project, Mickey 17, a sci-fi comedy, is set for release soon. Additionally, he has been cast in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey, slated for a 2026 release. The film boasts an all-star cast, including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Matt Damon.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE last month, Pattinson shared insights into his unique approach to preparing for roles. “I do a lot of wandering around, kind of practicing stuff rather than practicing new characters, which annoys everyone around me,” he admitted.

He added that those around him often question his unconventional methods, asking, “Why do you speak like a taxi driver in a German accent?”

While fans may have to wait longer than expected for The Batman Part II, Pattinson’s humor and packed schedule suggest that his return to Gotham will be worth it when it finally arrives.
